HONORING GENERATIONS OF TRADITION. EST.2020

TASTE OF UJI EST. 1860

Tsujirihei Matcha Company, established in 1860, stands as one of the oldest companies in Japan, proudly representing sixth-generation farmers dedicated to the art of tea cultivation.

Under the leadership of Tsuji Shinsuke, who shares a great friendship with Me, Tsujirihei forges a meaningful partnership with Adastra, celebrating the rich heritage of Japanese tea as they introduce it to the North American market.

The exquisite taste of Uji , renowned for its authentic tea flavor, originates from the Uji region in Kyoto, where the tea is nurtured in rich soil and grown in the shade for over 20 days prior to harvesting. This meticulous process involves covering new tea buds to shield them from direct sunlight, which enhances their rich flavor and delightful sweetness.

It was through Mr. Oshita a longtime friend of mine and the baker at ADASTRA Café that I was introduced to the sixth-generation head of Tsujirihei. Mr. Oshita and the Tsujirihei heir have known each other since childhood. Their relationship is built on mutual respect, especially in how they both approach craftsmanship with sincerity and passion. Being introduced by someone with such a personal and meaningful connection was a great honor for me.

Soon after, I had the opportunity to speak directly with the head of Tsujirihei, and I was deeply moved by his passion for tea and his devotion to tradition. That encounter led me to visit Tsujirihei in person, where I walked through their tea fields and came to understand what they truly value. It was a moment that gave clarity to both my heart and my mission.

When I shared the idea of introducing Tsujirihei’s proud legacy over 160 years of tradition since its founding in 1860 to the world through ADASTRA, he welcomed it with great joy and sincerity. He deeply resonated with our belief in telling the Tsujirihei story through the ADASTRA brand, and from that shared vision, a meaningful collaboration was born one rooted in mutual respect and a strong commitment to tradition.
